For the technical problem that tool nose cutting area transient temperature can hardly be measured in real-time by traditional cutting temperature measurement method. In order to measure the transient temperature of cutting tip, the NiCr-NiSi film thermocouple is integrated on the cutting tool. By this way, an intelligent cutting tool is successfully developed, which can measure the transient temperature of cutting tip. The dense insulation SiO2 film is deposited on the surface of cutting tool by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering technique. Then NiCr-NiSi film thermocouple is deposited on SiO2 films. Finally, another SiO2 film is deposited on the NiCr-NiSi film thermocouple. The static and dynamic calibrations of NiCr-NiSi film thermocouple are carried out in the self-developed automatic calibration system. Seebeck coefficient is 40.5 μV/K. The maximum linearity error and fast response time are less than 0.92% and 0.083 ms, respectively. The electronic measure unit embedded in the cutter bar can realize the function of real-time temperature acquisition, wireless transmission data, and/or data storage in the cutting process. Through the field experiment, the cutting tool with intelligent transient temperature measuring system can quickly and accurately detect the change of transient cutting temperature within 0.1 s, which provides new methods for transient cutting temperature measurement and the research and development of smart temperature measurement tool.
