Abstract

In order to determine the duration of shock pulse exciting a high g accelerometer, a finite element method is used to simulate propagation of stress pulse and generation of acceleration pulse in a Hopkinson bar. The excitation pulse width is conformed for the calibration of shock sensitivity and frequency response characteristic of a high-g accelerometer. These excitation pulses are generated by using the corresponding collision component including projectile and adjusting pad. It is demonstrated that the excitation pulses with different duration can be generated in the same Hopkinson bar by changing the bullet shape of projectile and the material and thickness of adjusting pad to excite a high-g accelerometer for different calibration parameters.
