The models of gas face seals for stead-state response analyses could be categorized into two basic models:equilibrium of axial forces static model (EAFSM), and axial-angular dynamic model (AADM). A parameter investigation including angular element and damping of secondary seals is carried out to gauge the difference between computing results of aforementioned models and to give themselves respective scope of application. The study shows that damping of secondary seals has much more remarkable influence on steady-state performance of face seals than angular tilt angles for its enormous effect on phase difference in angular modes. Even though the influence of rotor tilt angle and static stator tilt angle is feeble compared with damping, it cannot be ignored for the existence of damping. Therefore, when damping of secondary seals is enough small to neglect its effect on phase difference, EAFSM could be adopted to take place of AADM for time saving in practical project.
